OH RIGHT MY JOB.
So the daytime librarian (who is kinda sorta my boss) tells me I am catching onto stuff really quickly, which is cool for me. The software they use to run the library is pretty straightforward and I just hope I can remember all my five million different logins I have for the various things I'm going to be using.
APPARENTLY SOMEDAY I will be making student IDs. Unfortunately the program for that is locked to the daytime librarian and nobody else can access it and they haven't gotten it fixed it, derp. Sometime down the line I'll be trained to administer the certification tests that take place in a back room in the library, but I've been told I don't have to worry about that at all for a few months at least.
Probably my biggest responsibility is helping students with their projects and papers. I've already had to do that with two guys who were having trouble writing papers. One of them hasn't been in school since the 1970s and he's trying to write a paper about the field he's studying at the college. I spent most of Thursday helping him find stuff on Google and showing him how to cite sources in APA format. I've never taught anyone before and I'm terrible at explaining things (especially things that are second nature to me like, uhhh... paper writing and citing sources), BUT I think it went pretty well. I think the whole teaching/explaining thing is just going to take practice. I just hope I'm not bombarded with questions this week since this is the last week of the current term they're in and assignments are due and aaaa. Especially since the students who take night classes are the older adults who have full time jobs and have been out of school for a while, eep.
They had a potluck lunch on Thursday! I made a chocolate cake, and everybody devoured it. I'm pretty sure I made many new friends with it. I just wish I could remember people's names. D:
I'm still waiting to form a verdict about the job because I haven't worked the evening schedule yet and it was mostly just training this week. That's going to take some adjusting, I can tell. :U But hey! I get to wear comfortable shoes, have three day weekends and have the main library computer to myself, so it can't be all bad!
