I like deep and meaningful stuff when I can get through the whole thing, turn around and go, "hey, they're making (or at least trying to make) a very interesting point."

I don't like stuff that beats you with a stick screaming "THIS IS DEEP AND MEANINGFUL!! IF YOU DON'T GET IT YOU'RE STUPID AND DON'T DESERVE TO UNDERSTAND IT!!"

It's not like I don't *try* to figure stuff out, or that I get confused easily. I mean, I like and to some extent understand FLCL, and that's the very definition of "WTF". But I think the major difference between FLCL and the play is that FLCL still manages to be enjoyable even if you don't "get it". With the play... not so much. And really, I should've just known better... I hate politics with a passion and the minute I heard about Trotsky reading 1984 (as amsuing as that sounds) I should've known to stay away. Meh.

And yes, I realize that, having only seen the first part of the play, I probably shouldn't try to be forming an opinion, but to be honest, I really didn't want to see what they planned to do with those red, white and blue hats I saw, especially since the set included such things like pipes labelled "ENRON" and a Bush/Cheney poster on the wall.
